Referrers
CPAC accepts private, medicare, and third-party referrals.
Referral process for GPs
GPs are able to refer eligible patients for psychological services for some mental health conditions under the Medicare Better Access to Mental Health Care Initiative. If a patient is eligible, the GP can complete a Mental Health Treatment Plan with the patient. This will allow the patient to claim a partial rebate on the cost of an initial six sessions. If additional sessions are required, the patient will have to return to the referring GP to complete a Review of the Mental Health Treatment Plan. For more information click here.
We are able to process the Medicare rebate immediately after payment of a session, provided a copy of the Mental Health Treatment Plan and a written referral has been forwarded to our office prior to the initial session.
Referral process for Psychiatrists
Psychiatrists are also able to refer patients under the Medicare Better Access to Mental Health Care Initiative. The items codes to be used under Medicare include item 291 for an Assessment and Management Plan and item 293 for a Review of the plan. For more information click here.
Referral process for Third Parties
Referrals are accepted for people funded under various third party agencies (eg: Workers’ compensation, Motor Vehicle Accident, and EAP). Referrals and funding body information must be received before the first appointment to allow sufficient time to confirm approval from the service.
